Background
Name: Jonny McMurtry
E-mail: jonny@coachingthecoaches.net
Having been involved in high performance age grade rugby programs across Australia for over 10 years, I am currently completing research in conjunction with University of QLD and Rugby Australia, looking at age grade player's engagement and understanding what motivates, engages and drives players' participation. I am also working on sharing coaching concepts and findings in written format via blog and practical format directly with coaches in other sports such as soccer, swimming and golf.
My passion is understanding people’s motivation and assisting them and the people they work with to achieve what they are striving to accomplish in sporting or working atmospheres. Previous experience, research and qualifications have given me both the skills and desire to understand why people, most notably sporting participants, engage in certain actions while setting up frameworks, offering tools and being part of reflective practice to help all stakeholders in an athlete’s journey through effective and engaging communication methods. I want to facilitate coaches and athletes alike becoming the best people as well as performers they can be.
Coaching development work within various sporting organisations/clubs includes:
o Southside Swimming Squad, Rochedale, Brisbane.
o Wests Bulldogs Rugby Union, Toowong, Brisbane
o St Joachim’s Catholic Primary School, Holland Park, Brisbane
o Anglican Church Grammar School (Rugby 1st XV Head Coach), East Brisbane

o Program facilitator; Outside the Locker Room
